Makeup 101: How to Prep Your Skin for Makeup

Hey guys! How are you doing? I hope everyone is having a good day so far. Today marks the beginning of the new segment on my blog called "Makeup 101" (exponential naks!) In this segment, you'll learn the basics of makeup with me (or anything makeup related) and together we will unveil the secrets to flawless makeup application of the "pros". Now of course, that takes time. But don't worry, I'll cover all the things we need to know possible. I will scour the internet just to give you the up-to-date information because I'm not just helping you guys but I'm also helping myself. Are you ready to learn with me? Well I hope so. *big grin*

Today’s topic is all about preparing your skin for makeup. We all know how important this step is if you want your makeup to look well at the end. Makeup is a perfect way to cover up some skin irregularities, like acne and blemishes but you can’t apply makeup to the skin that hasn't been cleansed. One thing you should do in order to keep your skin clean and soft, is a facial peel. Peel basically means to remove dead skin cells from your face. Yes, I also meant exfoliation. :D There is no need for buying expensive peels from cosmetic store or visiting dermatologist. Once a week you wash your face with warm water and after that rub it with a towel.  It works perfectly! Of course, make sure that your towel is clean.

After the dead skin has been removed, you can start preparing your face with next few steps. First, determine your skin type. Two most common are dry skin and oily skin. According to the type, you should either hydrate your skin or remove oil.

If you have dry skin, you've probably noticed problematic areas around nose and under eyes. They tend to dry out often and you should apply moisturizer on them. Do not wash your face too many times a day, because that will make it even drier and can even cause red spots.

Oily skin on the other hand needs to be washed regularly; I suggest using a mild soap which won’t damage your skin and will remove oil. Forehead and nose area, so called T-zone, can get really shiny so make sure you remove oil with some cotton pads and tonic for oily skin ( you can just mix some water and rubbing alcohol, it  works great for oily skin! )

When you have finished cleaning and moisturizing, you need to apply some basic facial cream or colored cream that will work as a nice base for your makeup.

If you're preparing for a special event/occasion, you can do extra steps like Facial Mask, Facial Steaming or you can do a quick trip to your fave derma. No worries! Will laid out more deets on that on a separate post.  *wink*

And then, that's it! It’s very simple to prepare your skin. Just keep it clean, know your skin type and enjoy putting on your makeup!
